This weeks topic of Edu-tainment was very interesting to me. Just today I was noticing an example of edu-tainment while watching Oprah. She was talking about pledging against talking or texting while driving and presented some interesting statistics about accidents and deaths caused by people texting and driving. I think that the media should be used more often to give public health messages and when someone like Oprah covers the topic people are going to listen and I'm sure lives are going to be saved as a result.
I enjoyed the presentations this week and I think that they showed just how effective edu-tainment can be and it should be a powerful tool for public health professionals.
Also this week I had the opportunity to go to the cancer.gov live help line and ask a few specific questions for a family member. They did direct me to places on their website which I had already reviewed but they also did a search for clinical trials for me and provided a link. Overall the service was good, they were fast, and compassionate about the issue not just spewing out information. So I also helped them out by filling out the survey at the end.
Yay last blog!
