last blog

I thought our last lecture was really interesting. I really like the idea of using soap operas as a way to get information out. Especially for things like changing the way people think about a certain behavior such as talking about condom usage with their partners. When people see someone they feel attatched to and identify with do something it really shows them that they could do this behavior themselves. It also shows specific examples of possible things to do. The more this happens the more it gets into someone's head that they can do it too. There are so many things this could be useful for. Even when you think about education if your favorite TV show showed a person in a tough situation that may be similar to one you are in (for example- single parent decides to become a nurse or something like that) and it can kinda give you a guide of how to go about making this change happen.

I did try cancer.gov to find out about the 40+/50+ breast screening controvery. However, when I tried on Thursday their system was down and I tried again today- but it is only avaible Monday-Friday.
