mod 3 woot

Hey All! Hope you've enjoyed your spring break...after a 250 mile bike ride (broken up of course), I'm finally ready to blog :)

Ok end of the module means 3 key insights: Humor, branding, group presentations.

Humor, I really enjoyed the presentations on humor. There is a lot more that goes into using humor in an ad or campaign than I had initially thought. But it makes complete sense. You want to make sure that your message is received the way you intend for it to be, you do not want to accidentally offend the group you are trying to reach. I felt that humor could be used in multiple different ways and that it was interesting to see the way different companies had used it (e.g. relating to the product/topic vs. not) And it was interesting to see what variations of humor ads typically were stronger than others. So humor was a fun topic to me.

I agree with Jessica and Lanny that the branding was an interesting lecture. And I really liked the examples that were given in class. Branding appears to be a very useful tool, that when used correctly can have a great impact. I really like the ads Shelia showed in class...particularly the "Where's your child?" ad that had a child at the bottom of the pool. I felt that was simplistically powerful. I also like the VERB campaign and felt that it was a good example of how to make a strong brand because it used kids/teens to help come up with the name. Understanding branding will also help us with our group project.

Finally, the group presentations. I felt they were valuable, because it allowed for us to get an idea as to how the other groups were approaching the project and to help us think outside of our current box. I think having the other groups critique the presentations was very helpful as well.

overall, the module was interesting and seemed to make sense. i think its about time to end this though since im typing one handed now. Til next time...on to module 4!
