Good Evening group 5 "Go Team PA,"
Did anybody catch the Super Bowl? Insane. I thought the Colts would stomp the Saints! Anyhow, on to health communication...
On the first day of class, I did not know what to expect. We have all heard of "health" and "communication," but what does health communication mean? This question was posed to us during our first class in the form of the assignment, code your own communication. I had a hard time defining health communication because it encompasses mandy things and can have many meanings to different people. I now have a better understanding of the term, health communication, and hope throughout this semester I will gain more knowledge and a greater appreciation for health communciation.
The Theory at a Glance chapter was useful. It reintroduced me to the core theories that we covered in 661. It also discussed a few new theories which we did not get a chance to dicsuss in 661. The chapter was organized in a way to easily understand and the tables and figures will be extremely helpful for future reference.
As I read the Scholten article, I felt parts of the article to be dense and difficult to comprehend, however after we discussed it during lecture it made better sense to me and I think that the Elaboration-Likelihood Model (ELM) two routes toward attitude change (Central route and Peripheral route) can be key elements as we go forward with our future group projects.
