HBM, TRA, TPB, PAPM, SCT, ELM, IPM. . .This week's lesson was a great reintroduction to some of the cognitive behavioral theories and communication theories that we will be utilizing this semester. I, for one, needed the review. Having been out of the classroom for longer than I care to admit, these mnemonics had degraded to little more than a meaningless alphabet soup of letters in my too long unchallenged, cobweb-y brain.
Prior to the TAAG reading and Tuesday's lecture, I had little more than a vague recollection of a few remnant buzzwords--contemplation, precontemplation, severity, susceptibility, inter & intrapersonal, community level interventions. . . .these things all sounded familiar, but the readings and classroom review certainly helped to jog my memory in regards to the tenets of each behavioral model.
The communication theories were (sadly), even more long forgotten. I'll likely need a bit more work on the finer points of these, but I think I've got the general themes down. I found the ELM theory particularly interesting because it seemed especially illustrative of the information that I'd used to make a few recent purchases of both the low involvement (a toy for my younger cousin) and high involvement (loaf of bread. . .I'm very picky about what I eat) variety.
That's it for now! Hope you all have a fabulous weekend.
