I thought this past week of class was very fun and informative. As many of my classmates did, I really enjoyed watching and looking at the different adds and analyzing them to consider how effective they were to us and how effective we think they would be for their target audiences.
Before I began the MPH program I guess I never really thought of public health having anything to do with marketing, and before I took this class I really didn't realize the importance of effective marketing and how much of communication is done through marketing. It really makes sense to think of health as a product that we want to get as many people to buy in to as possible.
I enjoyed the Maibach reading this week and thought that the people and places framework was interesting. I think it is usefull to think of individuals and the groups that they are a part of both seperately from and together with the places that they recieve information.
Like my group members, I also enjoyed the live strong adds because they were relatable and very emotionally appealing. Although different marketing strategies appeal to different crouds like the emotional adds, the informative statisitcs, or comedy it is essential to consider your population and tailor adds to them.
For our group project promoting physical activity in 6-8th graders, it will be important to consider the age group of the kids when designing our program. Therefore I think that we should appeal to their interests in having fun and social networks as opposed making the program about strict physical activity regimines and traditional sports. (I the the F^3 idea)
For the focus groups we will be able to work with some of the kids from the school that I work at in El Cajon, It would be best to get them together directly after school so start thinking about if you guys are available during the week at 3:25. If not the only other time I can think of would be between 1:27 - 3:25 while they are in an elective class (But that would be our second choice)
