Week 3 Review

This past week was a good review of the theories that I had learned previously, but forgotten the details. I also enjoyed the individual presentations and thought that they contributed greatly to the class session in addition to the lecture. For me, seeing other people practice communication and more specifically presentation skills helps me to reflect on my own struggles and work to improve them.

As many others have commented, I also enjoyed the discussion on code your own communication assignment. I took finding the definitions of communication and health communication a bit more literally than others in the class and made them very broad. Having broad definitions actually helped in my observations fitting the definitions. I thought it was interesting to note that most of the class thought health communication had to be something positive I thought it could be positive or negative as long as it was a message concerning well being. Thinking of health communication that way there are many health messages bombarding us constantly and we have to find a way to filter through them and figure out what is important. As public health professionals it will be our jobs to figure out how to get people to listen to, trust, and motivate change based on our messages.

I enjoyed this weeks class and am looking forward to next week!
