Media, Messages, and Positioning:

Key points I took away 1. Humor definetly grabs someone's attention. Whether it is actually useful past the point of getting your attentions is more of a debate. However, this is one to keep in mind so at least you get a chance to lure someone in and tell them more about your topic rather than them bybassing everything you said. 2. Fear appeal has it's time and place. While there are a lot of people that seem to think fear does not change someone's behavior I wonder if it is just because there is not a big enough effect of what can happen. An example of this is drinking and driving. People in the US say oh people won't stop drinking and driving due to being afriad of something. Look at many countries in Europe thought that have much more sever reprocusions for drinking and driving. If there was enough to be afraid of- losing your car, losing your license, and getting a month in jail or something to that effect I think there would be a lot more people in the US to afraid to drink and drive. I lived in Switzerland for a year and never saw anyone there even think about having more than 1 beer and driving- they were too afraid of the reprocussions. 3. Branding is a good way to distingish your company/ message/ product from the rest of the pack. You can see this with Coca Cola in other countries. Some it is the only choice and others just automatically think of coke. I thought the association excersice was really interesting. When I think about it, I am very much attune to what I usually do- when I am hungry I go down the list of things I usually eat/ places I usually go to eat to come up with what I should eat/go to. Rarely do I ever google new places to go or new food to try so having a reconizable brand that comes to people's mind is very important.
